Israel has been under attack by Arabs since it's creation in 1948, and even before.
In 2000, using the excuse of Ariel Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount (which had been cleared and agreed to by Arab authorities), Arafat began a war…Intifada Two. But this time he had 60,000 well-armed gunmen and the shooting war was on.
This new tactic wasn't driving the Jews out of their lands, so a new technique was born…the homicide bomber. A method so vicious, so brutal, and so unique in history that many people in the world had trouble believing it could be true. And they hurried to make excuses for why a people would stoop to such a horror directed mainly at innocent civilian women, children, young and old.
Hundreds of Israelis have thus been blown to bits by bombs stuffed with all manner of projectiles…nails, ball bearings, pieces of jagged metal, and thousands have been maimed for life, losing limbs, eyes, and their sanity!
It is hard for most decent humans beings to absorb such horror, much less visualize it up close. Yes, we have all seen some TV footage of the aftermath of one of these bombings. Ambulances with lights flashing, rescue people rushing to and fro, people being cared for, and on the ground all sorts of exploded bits, pieces, and debri. All to often these bits and pieces are parts of people, but in the turmoil it is often hard to see clearly. A corps of men from an organization called Zaka have the self-imposed job of scraping up every shred of flesh and bone in order to satisfy the tradition of Jewish burial.
It is hard for the normal human mind to encompass such horror. Most of us will go through a lifetime without ever being exposed to such sights, thank goodness.
But it is important to know exactly what Israel is dealing with, not only in words, but when possible, in pictures too.

But it is a scene Israelis have seen a hundred times. Perhaps it will help you understand why Israel needs to take some of the defensive measures it does, why it needs to build a fence, and why it needs to go after people like Sheik Yassin who recruit, train, outfit, and glorify the bombers.
